Optimum Ads recognizes its commitment to the care of the environment and its social responsibility to the community by reusing and recycling tarpaulins produced for its billboards. Tarpaulins or tarps are large sheets of strong, flexible, water-resistant material that are made out of cloth or plastics. Long after a company’s billboard has changed, the tarps are used again as part of Optimum Ad’s vision for a zero-waste philosophy.

Because it is an active member of the Out of Home Association of the Philippines, Optimum Ads regularly supports typhoon victims by donating used tarpaulin materials. The tarps are then used as temporary shelters, particularly in remote provincial areas.

In another innovative use of recycled tarpaulins, a fish pond operator in Bulacan often uses old tarp materials donated by the company to protect his fish. His enclosed fish cages are lined with tarpaulin for fish growing, thereby protecting his business and source of income. The tarpaulin pond’s walls are lined with a form of rubber or leather carpet to prevent water from seeping in—an excellent condition for raising fish.
